Everything to know about the Met Gala 2017

There's no better way to enter the month of May, than with the highly anticipated 2017 Met Gala. Fashion enthusiasts and pop culture fanatics have had this penciled, if not permanent markered, in their diaries since January 1st. The first Monday of May is what we have all been waiting for, so, we are here to give you the low-down on all you need to know for this year's Met Gala. Prepare yourself for one the most exquisite events all year...

The Theme
Each year, the theme of the Met Gala is one of the most raved about components of the event itself. If you didn't know already, this year the theme for both the Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual Costume Institution exhibition and the Met Gala, is, (drum roll please) "Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the Inbetween". The theme encompasses the talent of Rei Kawakubo and proves her title of being one of the most influential fashion designers the fashion-world has to offer. First launching her label Comme des Garcons in 1969, her work is known for the breaking of barriers, rebellion against the norm and her rapid innovation. 

What we can expect from this theme is an integration of daring designs, unexpected volume and bold additions in surprising placements, a total challenge of the familiar and a jump into the obscure and extravagant. Something we've never seen before...

The Exhibition Itself
The Metropolitan Museum of Art originated in 1948 by publicist Eleanor Lambert, and was previously known as the Costume Institute Gala. The event expects around 600 attendees, which is why they are all picked wisely- by none other than Anna Wintour. Allegedly, tickets are available for a small sum of around $25,000, but Anna Wintour is to approve your entrance. Attendee's don't actually have to dress up to the theme, but like a good costume party, being attired to the theme is respected and rejoiced.

The Co-Chairs
With a good theme, comes suitable celebrities, and this year we have been granted with the likes of Katy Perry, who has previously shown her dedication to the Met Gala's theme (see below), alongside Pharell Williams who will both be co-chairs of the event. Anna Wintour will, of course, be among the likes, and loved up bunch Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen will also join this bundle of A-listers.

The NO to Social Media
The Met Gala law apparently placed by Anna Wintour to ban the use of cellphones and social media will sadly be the case for this year's event also. We don't know how selfie-queens such as Kim Kardashian and Cara Delevingne will get through the night without a sneaky snap, but I am sure they'll find a way...
